Editors Preface: In the fall of 2003, RHCA contracted with WellCorp, Inc. to provide a variety of wellness programs to supplement health/wellness programs available by various insurance providers. Nurseline, one of these programs under Healthy Vistas, has been selected for presentation in the this newsletter because it can be used-at no extra cost - by all participants in RHCA medical insurance programs. The other programs are directed toward participants who have specific health needs and who are not eligible for Medicare, i.e., below age 65.
Have you ever been in one of these situations?
-- You leave the doctor's office with a new prescription in hand and then think of questions you forgot to ask. In the past, you may have relied on the advice of friends and family because you did not want to bother the doctor or even the pharmacist. Do you really feel the need to understand more about the side effects of this new prescription and proper actions should side effects occur?
-- You wake up in the middle of the night and realize that "something is not right" - or you burn yourself in the kitchen - or your grandchildren are visiting and one begins to run a fever. You are unsure about the seriousness of the condition and about the proper response. Do you need to go to the Emergency Room immediately. wait for a physicians appointment, or treat it at home? Guidance would be most helpful.
Help for such situations is now available 24 hours a day, seven days a week with a call to NurseLine. On the other end of that telephone will be a Registered Nurse who can talk with your about the situation being faced and who can provide information, education, support and practical advice for the health-related issue of concern. You might avoid unnecesary pain and save a trip - and its costs - to the doctor's office or emergency room.
Call NurseLine at 1-800-370-3714 and select Option 1 to speak with a Registered Nurse. As a retiree you may wish to post this number on your list of emergency numbers; you may also give it to your own children if they need to call the service on your behalf! (One final note: To gain access to this service, you - or your children for you will need your Social Security number as the identifier.)
